| A typical day in the life of Kabin kidz. It’s fun! It’s educational! It’s individual! |
KIDZ KABIN. WHERE LEARNING IS CHILD’S PLAY Generally speaking, we find that our children have a positive attitude to learning and this is reinforced by the enthusiasm of our staff.
COMMUNICATION In a typical day there is much verbal communication between staff members and children, and indeed between the children themselves. We read stories in French and watch the BBC Children’s Language Course, Muzzy. Once a week, we also have a Yoga teacher who uses all forms Music is also a major part of our lives at Kidz Kabin. LITERACY A cosy, comfortable Book Corner encourages children to choose books and “read” to themselves or out loud.
The children’s enjoyment of story-telling is visible as they join in, laugh, clap and generally appear animated. |
We build the concept of numbers into all manner of activities. For example a group of 7 children were sitting in a circle and they took it in turns to walk around the edge of the circle gently tapping each person on the head with a fairy wand as they counted them. The children also play countless sorting activities with shape, size and colour, sing Nursery Rhymes and play “How Many” games.
We encourage children to use our baby keyboard and also the painting programme,Tux paints, The children have access to a Tuf Cam, (hand held camera) and also to a Bee Bot, a programmable robot, especially liked by young children. By observing the children we can see that they become independent learners as they grow in confidence and as they grow older, begin to explore their environment on their own. As they talk more, it’s noticeable how many questions they ask. Naturally, we always try to give an age-appropriate response. If a child encounters a problem, we encourage them to solve it themselves. If necessary, we might prompt them or make a few suggestions to point them in the right direction.
Throughout the day we encourage children to play outdoors and take part in physical activities. This helps to develop their gross motor skills as well as muscle strength. If it’s cold or wet, some children can be reluctant, but we try to find something interesting or fun to do – such as blowing bubbles – and we usually succeed! We enjoy nature walks, investigating natural outdoor phenomena such as "causes of cracks" and lots of fun time in our local parks. |
