Welcome to Woodland Wonders at Pembroke Studios
A hybrid Forest School and EYFS Nursery programme launching Spring 2026
Woodland Wonders is our brand-new hybrid programme, launching in Spring 2026 and designed for children aged 2½ to 5 years. It brings together the very best of Forest School education with the structure, care and curriculum of an outstanding EYFS nursery.
This unique offer allows children to experience meaningful outdoor learning in local woodland and benefit from the consistency, warmth and developmental support of their nursery day — the perfect balance for curious, confident learners.

Why Woodland Wonders?
Woodland Wonders has been created by Linda Symons, founder and owner of Kidz Kabin, whose passion for outdoor learning runs deep.
Over the past eight years, Linda has become an authority in Forest School education, running highly regarded Easter and Summer Forest School camps for primary and secondary school children in local woodland.
Woodland Wonders brings this expertise into the early years, carefully adapted to suit nursery-aged children.
This programme is ideal for children who:
-
Love being outdoors and learning through nature
-
Benefit from movement, exploration and hands-on experiences
-
Thrive with a blend of freedom and routine
-
Are ready for deeper, more immersive learning opportunities

A True Hybrid Model: Forest School + Nursery
Unlike bespoke Forest Schools where children are based outdoors all day, Woodland Wonders offers a balanced, hybrid approach.
Children spend mornings immersed in local woods enjoying a range of activities, followed by the afternoon in our first-class nursery environment of Pembroke Studios, where learning continues through carefully planned EYFS activities, play and routines.
Children will be appropriately dressed to enable visits to the woods in most weather conditions, but on rare occasions when inclement weather prevents safe woodland journeys, forest school learning continues within the nursery through:
-
Woodwork and whittling
-
Clay and natural art
-
Gardening and tending the nursery garden
-
Exploration of natural materials
Outdoor learning doesn’t stop — it simply adapts.

How Children Benefit from Forest School
-
Self-confidence and self-esteem through achievable challenges
-
Imaginative play and creativity, inspired by natural materials
-
Social skills and collaboration, working together in open spaces
-
Speech and language development, supported by relaxed conversation and shared discoveries
-
Physical strength and coordination, climbing, balancing and exploring uneven terrain
-
Problem-solving skills and curiosity, as children investigate, question and experiment
-
Emotional resilience and independence, learning to assess risk and trust themselves
Forest School offers powerful developmental benefits that complement traditional nursery learning beautifully. Through regular, purposeful time in nature, children develop:
How Woodland Wonders Aligns with the EYFS
Woodland Wonders is fully rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Learning in nature is not an alternative to the EYFS — it is one of the richest ways to bring it to life.
Here’s how the 7 Areas of Learning naturally unfold through our hybrid curriculum:

Children talk constantly outdoors — describing what they see, problem-solving together, sharing ideas and using rich, descriptive language inspired by their surroundings.
Communication & Language

Running, climbing, balancing and scrambling build core strength and coordination. Activities such as den-building, woodwork and tool use develop fine motor skills and control.
Physical Development

Forest School nurtures resilience, independence and collaboration. Children learn to manage risks, work as a team, build confidence and regulate their emotions.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Storytelling comes alive through woodland tales, shared stories, mark-making with natural materials and imaginative play inspired by nature and woodland creatures.
Literacy

Maths is embedded naturally through counting, sorting, measuring, comparing, estimating and problem-solving in real-world contexts.

Children explore plants, trees, wildlife and mini-beasts, learn about seasons and sustainability, and develop a deep respect for the natural world.

Creativity flourishes through ground art, sculpture, decorating stones, hapa zome, music, movement and imaginative construction using natural materials.
